pinball dreams

1992 makes a comeback to the iPhone

It's 1992 all over again and Pinball Dreams is here.

I have just spent a hefty portion of my evening checking it out. Chatted with the author of the game mr. Juuso Salmijärvi earlier today and I hear the game is selling pretty good at the moment. It's only been out a few days now.

And that's not a huge surprise. It is very true to the original, which is great since this used to be one of my favorite games (not to mention Pinball Fantasies and Pinball Illusions). I must have played those games a lot more than "real" pinball ever.

All the history of the series from Wikipedia:

There's a good review here in TouchArcade.

The webpage for the game and for Cowboy Rodeo who makes it is here:

I have a feeling that we will see a lot more "retro" classics making a comeback on the iPhone. For a game like this the platform is almost ideal, and old legendary stuff feels very fresh again. I have tried to stay away from purchasing much iPhone games, but this one got me ;)

Hollywood has been cashing in for years on the former teenagers turned adults comic book fandom and fantasies; selling Spiderman, Batman and X-Men, etc by the boatloads. Perhaps we will see a similar retro-business with games such as this.

I'm very much a sucker fanboy in the same genre; very eagerly waiting for the movies Watchmen and Wolverine... not to mention Thor, and Captain America, and Silver Surfer, and Doctor Strange, and all the rest......
